Watchkeeper pilots express frustration at downtime

BEPJ understands that army pilots testing Watchkeeper drones at Parc Aberporth are frustrated by the amount of time they are sitting around doing nothing when they should be practising “flying”.

The reason is the inclement weather on the  Wales Wales coast. Low cloud, incessant rain and high winds have meant that flying training which should have taken a few days is taking weeks to complete. One pilot said that the tests ought to have been carried out in The USA or Cyprus where the clear weather allows more flying time.

Watchkeeper trials are due to end in 2015, but weather related delay might prolong them for years, while pilots to enjoy West Wales not-so-mini-breaks. Courtesy of the UK taxpayer of course…
