It has emerged that West Wales Airport and UAV operator Selex failed to report the crashes of its “Strix” and “Falco” UAVs in separate incidents in September 2009.
It is believed that The Civil Aviation Authority was only alerted to the crashes by members of the public. As a result, the CAA has now asked for reports on the crashes from the operator and airport.
Jeremy Clulow of BEPJ stated:
“The attitude of UAV operators and the airport demonstrates how existing rules and legislation relating to UAV safety are ignored, yet we are being asked to put our faith in the competence of operators and their compliance with a “code of conduct” when it comes to privacy.”
